Do you have the Mirena IUD?

This is a different works for me post. I figured that this is a good way to put a word out there on people out there with the IUD Mirena. I first off must say that I have really loved it! My periods are so light and I’ve been told that they may even stop all together, BUT! They say that there are no side effects. That your ovaries will still do what your ovaries are supposed to do. That is a big fat FALSE!! I got my IUD put in on 10/1/2007. A few months ago I started having anxiety attacks and I’ve been more irritable than I’ve ever been in my life. This was so out of control that I actually got a prescription to Xanax and then eventually tried Gaba Ease, which I must say has helped immensely. So part of my works for me is Gaba Ease. If you have irritation due to hormones, anxiety or stress this is a natural supplement that has shocked me with it’s magical powers.

Okay, I’m getting to the point of the whole IUD spill. I was such an emotional/hormonal wreck that I called the doctors. I had hormone testing done and I went in yesterday for my results. The “women’s” doctor’s office that I go to does research and they’re starting to recognize that what I’m about to tell you happens to a lot of people that have Mirena. My progesterone levels were at a .47! I’m a 25, non-pregnant female and my levels should be in the 5’s. Having such low progesterone levels has dropped my estrogen levels down to a 58…. I have numbers like someone in menopause! No wonder I’ve been a batty psycho case. I’m so relieved that this can all be corrected by taking a progesterone pill (which I start tomorrow!!) to fix this, because I was getting ready to pack my bags and move out for the sake of my family.

So, if you have Mirena and you sometimes feel really foggy in your head or you just downright know that you are about one flipout away from a nice hospital visit (okay I really wasn’t that bad) then go get your hormones checked!!! And if you have stress/anxiety in your life then order some Gaba Ease….. because it really works for me!

Routine Method for Kids

IT’S WORKS FOR ME WEDNESDAY!!!!!

Thanks to a wonderful blogger I got the most wonderful idea that works! See below as I explain w/pictures….
Above is a poster board and I have one row for Morning To Do and I insert little cards which some samples are below to insert into the pockets. In the morning my son wakes up runs to the chart and picks out the first card. Does that task and then moves it over to the DONE pocket. He has a set for Morning, a set for After School & a set for Before Bed.

Above are some samples of some clipart that I found at www.theideadoor.com GREAT WEBSITE!! And I printed them out on colorful 4×6 cards. There’s even a card that has music notes, which means practice piano.

Above you will find Jayden’s reward chart. He gets a sticker for each set of pockets that he empties. He gets a sticker for the day if he does his homework (which is not in the pocket) and if he gets no x’s (bad marks) at school for the day. Then I leave one last chance for him to earn a sticker which is called Mom’s choice. I usually have him help pick up Ella’s toys or something to do w/her.

So, this totally works for us! I’m really thankful for this wonderful bloggin’ mom who threw this idea out there for me, because it really helps. I love that I can mix the cards up for after school. I try to keep morning & night routines the same, but after school it’s a surprise which cards will be in there.

Family History

I believe that family history is so important. It’s so important for your kids to know where they came from. I believe that we as parents have a responsibility to provide our children with records of their child hood. I have come up with the solution on this. First off, let me just say that I LOVE to scrapbook. However, with working and kids and life, I just don’t have the time to be ON IT. So, while I will still do scrapbooks at some point I’ve come up with a new plan.

Every year I will be taking all of my blog entries for the year and putting them into a hard cover book. Blurb has a program that is awesome and will help me with this. Every year there will be a book for my family. It will have all the pictures, all the stories, EVERYTHING on my blog. With videos I will take all the videos for the year and burn them into a movie. That DVD will be put in the back of my “blog book”. I can’t wait for this year to end so that I can make my first book.

And that is how I will be providing to my family our Garibay Family History.

Mobile Convenient To Do List

Welcome to Works for ME Wednesday!! This week I’m sharing my To Do list tip.

I love to mark things off of a list. You get this overwhelming feeling of accomplishment and it feels so great. What I have found to be the best way to have my to do list and to take it along with me is to use my phone. I actually make things I need to do as an appointment. So, if I have errands to run I will make sure that everything that needs to be done while I’m out is in my calendar on my cell phone. Then as I complete a task or go to an appointment or whatever it is I delete it off my calendar. When I’m done w/all of my errands I check my phone to make sure I’m not missing anything. At the end of the day I always look at my calendar to make sure I didn’t forget to do something. If I did forget and it must wait until the next day then I go in and change the date of that item and it’s on the calendar for the next day. There’s also the reoccurring feature that makes things that happen frequently easy to be set up to automatically be put in.

For other great tips on what works for others visit Shannon’s Blog and go through the list. I suggest getting a nice, hot cup of tea and putting on some nice, relaxing music as you go through them all. And don’t forget to come back on Friday for my Friday Favorites where I list all the tips I’ve read on other’s blogs that I found to be helpful to me.

6 Year Old Unhealthy Eater

It’s a backwards edition of Works For Me Wednesday and I get to ask for some advice on something. I’ve actually been thinking about what I’m going to ask for the past week and have had so many ideas come to mind, but I think I’ve decided to stick with some advice on my son. Jayden is 6 years old and we have the worst issue with foods. It’s my fault and I’ll start there. We lived a very busy life up until a year ago and there wasn’t much time for home cooked meals and we’ve lived our lives in the fast lane and spent many nights eating fast food and basically CRAP. I am now a SAHM and have picked up cooking and we actually have home cooked meals almost every night. Jayden, however, does not eat what we eat. His list of foods is as follows:

Sandwiches (on wheat bread)
Chicken Nuggets
Corn Dogs
Top Ramen
Fish Sticks
Chicken
Tons of fruit (I’m lucky here)

However, he will not eat a veggie if his life depended on it. If I stick something in front of him at the table that he does not eat he actually will throw up. It’s horrible. I know 110% that it is my fault, so I just wanted to cover that, but I want to nip this in the butt and have been trying for a while. I took him to the doctors and they’re going to do some testing on him, but in the meantime how in the world am I going to get this kid of mine to start eating healthy? We just found out my husband has high blood pressure and now we’re even going more healthy in our home and I really want my son to be on board with this. I don’t want to make 2 meals at night, but I don’t want him to throw up at my table. I’m kinda at my witt’s end.

So, my question to you is, what can I do to get him more healthy. Do you have a recipe that you could share that he might like and has hidden veggies in them? HELP!!!

Also, if you wouldn’t mind, if you know anything about how to lower blood pressure please CLICK HERE and comment on my post from yesterday about helping my husband to lower his blood pressure. Thank you so much!!!

Friday Letters

For Works For Me Wednesday I thought I’d share something special that I do for my kids with other moms. There’s so many memories with kids and not enough space in the baby books to put them. I want my kids to be able to go back and read about milestones they had, funny things they said, and even the bad stuff. I want them to be able to know how much they truly were loved so a few weeks ago I went and bought 2 journals. One for Jayden, one for Ella. I set a reoccurring reminder in my phone calendar for every Friday @ 10:00pm and every Friday I write a letter to each child in their journal. Some letters are a short I love you, and others are detailed. I only wish I thought of this when Jayden was a baby, but better late than never. In the first letter I promised that they would have a letter every Friday. When they’re 18 I’ll wrap the finished journals up and give them as a birthday present. It will be a lot of reading for them, but what a special gift that will be for them.

No more carrying a formula can!

It is Works for Me Wednesday!! This week I want to share my new favorite bottles and the most exciting part about them. I guess I should first say I HATE (YES HATE) Avent bottles. I swear it takes me so many tries to get those lids on right and nothing makes me more mad than going to shake that bottle and having formula spray all over you…yeah, that is what happens w/Avent bottles…so if you’re a new mommy or new mommy to be and you plan on using bottles – I HIGHLY suggest these ones.

Okay…. Soothie bottles have these fun little “snack containers” as you can see in the picture and you actually can pre measure formula, put them in the little containers and then stack the bottle on top of them. You can just keep stacking and stacking too. This works wonders for me because I already have so much crap in the diaper bag and toting around a can of formula is no fun. Now all I have to do is fill 3 of the little “snack containers” with pre-measured formula (1 for each bottle) fill 2 bottles w/water, then stack one bottle on top of one “snack container” and then the second bottle I stack on 2…and even stacking it on 2 my bottles still fit perfectly in the bottle holders on the diaper bag.

So, this is what works for me. For other tips from other’s visit Rocks in My Dryer ~ and Happy Wednesday!!

Declutter

These weeks have been flying by! It’s another Works for me Wednesday. Last week was backwards week and I actually got to ask for advice. I asked for tips on how to help my son to learn how to read. Thank you so much to all of you for your wonderful advice. I’m going to use it!! We’ve ordered the most suggested book out of my comments “Teach your child to read in 100 easy lessons.” I can’t wait to get it and start on this.

If you’re anything like me clutter drives you nuts. I hate clutter (when I do my Random I HATES I might consider adding this to the list…stay tuned for that). I have found a great method of getting rid of clutter by taking baby steps.

First off set a timer. You can do so much in 15 minutes…so set it for 15 minutes. Grab a bag and rummage through your house grabbing anything you want to throw away. Don’t stop – work your butt off for that 15 minutes. You can even set up a box that you throw things in that you want to donate. The key thing here is 15 minutes….. set a timer and the second that timer goes off STOP! Then set your timer again for 15 minutes and do another task – like clean your kitchen, but only for 15 minutes!! After doing 2 15 minutes sessions set the timer for 15 more minutes and plop your butt in front of the computer, or with a book…whatever just for some little you time.

Try it…. sounds weird and like it won’t motivate you, but I promise you it will.

One little trick that might help before you do anything is SHINE YOUR SINK first and once that’s shining and gleaming things just come together. I promise you they do.

So set your timer and let things in your home start coming together. Remember it takes babysteps.

Teaching Them How to Read

It’s Backwards Works for Me Wednesday ~ so instead of me telling you what works for me I’m asking you to tell me what works for you on a question I have…..

My son Jayden is 6 and in kindergarten and is showing interests in learning how to read. What do you find as the best methods in helping your child learn how to read? Are there special websites that really help with this? He loves the internet, so something that’s fun and teaches how to read would be great. But I also want something that him and I can do together.

Go check out Rocks in my dryer for other people who need your help!!
